The files below contain
two-part settings (high/low voices) of the music for Matins and the
First Hour. The melodies are those of the published Anthology of
Serbian Chant (2006) volumes featuring Serbian chant with English
text. The Troparia, Prokeimena, Canons etc. are taken from the
Sunday matins of the Oktoechos. Two penitential hymns from the
Triodion along with the Megalynarion of the Nativity of Our Lord have
also been included. For navigational purposes, several indices
have been interspersed throughout the volume.
Although it is notated in the treble clef, this lower part is more
suited to a Bass-Baritone voice but could also be sung by an
Alto. The upper voice —the chant— can be sung by either a Tenor,
Baritone, Mezzo Soprano or a Soprano. Although most of the
chants are notated in the key of Fmajor/minor, they can be freely
transposed to a suitable register for the singers.
The two pdf files below are
largely identical with the exception of the red AUDIO links in the
first
one. For best results download and open this first pdf file
within your pdf reader so that you can view the score within the reader
while hearing the audio files, which will open up within your internet
browser when you click on them.
The second pdf is for printing (Please do not print from the AUDIO
links pdf). Blank pages have been added to the pdf in order to
facilitate two sided copying. Odd numbered pages should always be
on the right hand side.
